The United States-Indonesia Society (usindo) is pleased to continue supporting and contributing to the United States-Indonesia security dialogue. As intended, this new study by John Haseman and Eduardo Lachica on “The U.S.-Indonesia Security Rela-tionship: The Next Steps” comes at the right time. We commissioned it to be ready in early 2009 at the advent of a new U.S. presidential administration, when the issues are most amenable to discussion and progress. We wanted to provide a professional set of facts, issues, and recommendations on the relationship; inform the incoming administration, Congress, and the public on strengths and areas for improvement; and prepare the ground for informed debate. This study does exactly that.
